Westley grew up in Northern Michigan, along the banks of the Betsie and Platte River, wielding a fly rod by the age of 14. He got his feet wet in the industry as a first mate on the charter boats out of Frankfort, fishing for Lake Trout, Steelhead, and Salmon in the spring and summer. In his free time, he honed his abilities pursuing steelhead, trout, salmon, and smallmouth in all of Michigan’s great watersheds. After studying Natural Resource Management and Writing at Grand Valley State University, Westley left the concrete jungle of Grand Rapids, the Grand River, and the Rogue river behind. He drifted into the PMRL fly shop one day with a laundry list of questions, a head full of confidence, and a heart full of passion. After helping maintain the fly shop and lodge operations for a few years, Westley smoothly transitioned into being a guide.
Whether you are new to the sport, or a seasoned veteran, Westley’s mix of humor, patience, thorough instruction, knowledge, and passion is sure to rub off on you.
In his free time Westley enjoys tying flies, spending time with his friends and fellow guides, enjoying the company of his girlfriend and their three dogs, and of course, fishing.
Join me on one of the nation’s great salmon streams. The Hoh River runs for 56 miles from the glaciers of Mt. Olympus through the towering Hoh River Rainforest to the wild Pacific Coast. Here we will chase steelhead, predominantly, on the fly. Spey rods are an exciting way to fish, cover water, and present a fly to fresh ocean-running steelhead. If that doesnt suit your fancy, centerpinning beads or worms is also on the menu!

The Pere Marquette River is one of Michigan's premier fishing destinations, renowned for its exceptional migratory fish runs. King Salmon begin arriving in late August, flooding the river by the tens of thousands through mid-October. The lower stretches of the river are particularly thrilling, as these newly arrived salmon are powerful and energetic. Fall Steelhead follow, drawn by the abundance of salmon eggs, and offer explosive and acrobatic fishing opportunities. This river also has a rich history, being the first in the United States to have German Brown Trout introduced. With prolific hatches and thousands of spawning Steelhead visiting from March to April, the river promises excellent fishing experiences. Even if migratory fishing isn't your preference, the Pere Marquette River remains an outstanding destination. The large trout, feeding on the abundant eggs, grow to impressive sizes. Night fishing can yield trophy trout!
