The Pere Marquette River is one of Michigan's premier fishing destinations, renowned for its exceptional migratory fish runs. King Salmon begin arriving in late August, flooding the river by the tens of thousands through mid-October. The lower stretches of the river are particularly thrilling, as these newly arrived salmon are powerful and energetic. Fall Steelhead follow, drawn by the abundance of salmon eggs, and offer explosive and acrobatic fishing opportunities. This river also has a rich history, being the first in the United States to have German Brown Trout introduced. With prolific hatches and thousands of spawning Steelhead visiting from March to April, the river promises excellent fishing experiences.
Even if migratory fishing isn't your preference, the Pere Marquette River remains an outstanding destination. The large trout, feeding on the abundant eggs, grow to impressive sizes. Night fishing can yield trophy trout, while July and August bring terrestrial hatches that provide excellent fishing during the day.
