If you are looking to get into some Steelhead, this is a killer option. Both hatchery & wild steelhead call the feather river home. The natives are Central Valley Steelhead with feather river hatchery steelhead supplemented, both very hard fighting fish pound for pound. They tend to go air-born when hooked, with long fast runs into your backing. Sometimes it’s quality over quantity, other times is quantity and quality. summer/fall/winter/spring depending on the flows. Salmon make their way up as well, trigging the steelhead to follow for what’s known as the “egg bite” & this is when the fishery really shines! By catch’s can include shad, pike minnow, sucker fish and stripped bass. Overall a really fun venue! Let me show you around! -The trip covers 2 anglers, rods, flies, & tackle are included -cold drinks & deli style lunch -Typically fish for around 8-12 hours -meetup location Oroville, Ca -Boat type, Clackacraft -Must bring fishing license/steelhead card 530-690-6636 for meetup address and time!

If you are looking for a day of steelhead fishing but don't want to endure the intense conditions a coastal river may have? Look no further. The Feather River holds one of the best steelhead runs in the North Valley of California. Only an hour and twenty minutes north of Sacramento, it's prime location makes this a great option for the greater Silicon Valley. With two distinct runs of steelhead (fall and spring) there are endless opportunities throughout the year to target these fish. Not only are they plentiful, but they are very user friendly. It is not uncommon to have double digit days on the feather. On average, fish range anywhere from 16-24 inches. When hooked, they tend to peel drag and jump like no tomorrow. This trip is an excellent option for beginner and novice anglers alike, as you will have multiple opportunities to land a steelhead.

The Feather River in California is known for two things: the excellent wild rainbow trout fishing it provides and its natural, scenic beauty. The section of the Feather River that we fish is from Clio/Graeagle, CA area, through "the canyon", to just below Cresta Dam. It all depends on the time of the year. Yes, that's a lot of water but that's what is so great about the Feather River! You will have plenty of areas to explore to find solitude, see amazing canyon views, and hook into awesome wild rainbow trout. We consider this river to be in the Lost Sierras of Plumas County and it's a awesome fishery. Historically, the Feather River basin was initially inhabited by the Maidu tribe, although there is evidence to suggest that the Paiute and Washoe tribes had settlements in the area before being driven out by white settlers. This is a freestone river so there is no dam to control the amount of water above Quincy. Some years, the water can maintain proper height and temperatures to fish into July. This is all dependent on the snowpack. We stop fishing this water shed when the water temps get to be around 65-67 degrees in the day(usually mid June) to leave the trout alone until the temps start to cool back down in mid September. Walk and wade trips consist of hiking on the river banks to find runs that hold fish. Waders and wading boots are suggested for most of the year but once the water gets warm enough, wet wading can be had.

The Lower Sacramento River Rainbow is the base standard of what a wild Rainbow Tout is. The Lower Sacramento River is cold and pure, full of insects. No stressful winters reducing insect hatches to nil. Nope. There are insect hatches all spring, summer, and fall. And in the winter, the Rainbows of the Lower Sacramento eat BWO’s, Salmonfly Nymphs, Eggs, Salmon Fry, and the large volume of midges this river doles out. If you are having a tough fly fishing day on the Lower Sacramento, it’s probably because your flies or lures aren’t in the water long enough or the river flows have come up as they do in the spring (typically June).

Join me for a full day float on the Lower Sacramento River for trophy Native Rainbow Trout! With beautiful views of both Mt. Lassen & Mt. Shasta, combined with one of the best tailwaters in the west, you get a full day of action & adventure. If you are not familiar with this river it’s known as the “Trout Factory” where the average fish can be in the 16-18” range with the possibility of landing a hatchery steelhead or wild steelhead. We get salmon in the fall and the trout get massive from devouring salmon eggs and many insects from the diverse menu of bugs! Double ups are a very common thing around here! This can be quite productive, & I will get you dialed in with my professional knowledge on this piece of water. -The trip covers 2 anglers, rods, flies, & tackle are included -cold drinks & deli style lunch -Typically fish for around 8-12 hours -meetup location Redding, Ca -Boat type, Clackacraft -Must bring fishing license/steelhead card 530-690-6636 for meetup address and time!
